I just don't want to...

Yes I had things to do today. Did I do them? Nope. Did I feel bad about that? Nope. Did I revel in my laziness for laziness sake? Hells ya! Did I eat cheese corn for lunch? YES. Did I eat gelato for dinner? YES. Did I feel bad about it? Well, ya, a little...my tummy is kinda upset now. But do I care? Nope.

I don't even care that I'm passing this off as today's blog entry....

Today I said YES to nothing.

All love should be a Walt Whitman poem

I laughed at a friend of mine when she told me her favourite movie was The Notebook. I would make fun of any of those 'romance' movies. I thought that the women that enjoyed that kind of nonsense were weak and foolish. Then I watched The Notebook. And I fell in love with those weak and foolish notions. I realized the reason I made fun of romantic gestures was because my life was sadly devoid of them. The ridiculous passion portrayed in that movie is what I crave. But does it exist? Is there a man out there willing to go to outrageous lengths to show his undying love for me? Is the Hollywood love story even possible? I can only hope...

"The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more, that  plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds."

I want a man to wake my soul.
I want a man to plant a fire in my heart.
I want him to read me poetry and write me letters.
I want to watch sports and opera with him.
When I look into his eyes I want to know he sees only me.
He will be my very best friend.
I want him to hunger for me.
I want to quiver when he touches me.
When he says my name it sounds different in his mouth.
I want to grow old with him and still look at each other with desire and joy.

Maybe I want what can't be. But everything else has felt like settling. So there must be more to have, right?

Today I choose to say YES to hope.

Not everyone likes me...apparently

Ladies and gentlemen, I am a struggling single parent with a significant disability. I do not strike my child. I do not call my child names. I do not excessively yell at my child. I try not to embarrass my child. I provide ALL the basics for my child. I provide some of the luxuries for my child. I hug my child. I kiss my child. I say 'I love you' many times a day(even through text messaging if she's not with me) to my child. I encourage my child. I have real conversations with my child. I do the best that I can for my child.

My Kid has repeatedly asked one of her friends to come over for sleepovers or just to hang out and has been repeatedly told 'My mom said no'. The most recent time has been to work on an upcoming school project. And my Kid was told that this girl could only come over if there was another one of their friends coming too. There was never a reason given and I thought something was up. So I told the Kid to talk to her friend and find out what the problem was so that we could get it cleared up. I picked up the Kid from school today and found out that the reason her little friend could not come over is because of ME.

I am WEIRD. I don't spend enough time with my Kid. And because my Kid (who has long hair) got head lice last year that makes me a BAD MOM. So because I am a weird bad mother this girl isn't allowed to hang out with my sweet adorable Kid.

Out of respect for my own Kid, I can't even call this woman (whom I've only met maybe 3 times in the 6 years my Kid has been going to the same school as her daughter) to tell her off!! Where the hell does she get off placing that kind of judgment on someone she doesn't know??

Am I doing things like this??
                                                                          NO!!!!!!!!

Or worse yet, something like this???
                                                  Oh HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have got a lot of damn nerve talking smack lady. And if I was such a weird and horrible mom how is it that my Kid has good grades and is well liked by everyone she has ever met because she is such a funny and wonderful little person???

Today I am saying YES to being pissed right off!!

You like me!

What a great moment of uninhibited boobs and emotions.

I, too, was given an award recently. (I was wearing a bra when I received it though! Freewheeling womens libbers!) I received it from a mermaid-loving funny gal. You should read her blog, http://jdracecar-itsalwaysfunnyincolumbubble.blogspot.com, if you aren't already.

Thank you so much jd!!

Anyway this is where the fun part happens. I'm supposed to tell 4 lies and 1 truth about myself. Select 5 other bloggers to send this award to and have them tell 4 lies and 1 truth and then they hand out the award and so on and so on....

Gotta love it...

Here are the 5 blogs I have chosen for this award.
laughingmyabsoff.blogspot.com
dusterbed.wordpress.com
matthewstanley.blogspot.com
thelittlestmushroom.blogspot.com
jonesoffcourse.blogspot.com

So check them out.

Unlike jd, who gave me this award, I don't have a problem lying. In fact I believe that I have a knack for it. Lies are so much more interesting than the truth in my life...if only I could live the lies, if only.

#1 - I had a partial webbing of the fourth and fifth toes on my left foot until one night I got really really drunk and took a pair of scissors to that damn flap.

#2 - I am a huge closeted fan of The Bachelor. (But I claim to hate reality tv so tell no one. It's embarrassing)

#3 - I love all my friends.

#4 - I am awesome at killing zombies.

#5 - I have a monster, swooning, butterflies in my stomach, aching loins crush on someone on my Facebook.

The truth may surprise you....

I don't see the point , the world is coming to end in 2012!

Recycling is good. Reduce, good. Reuse, good. Recycle, good. Of course curbing the population would be better...but you can't murder a third of the world's citizens, reproduction licensing has yet to be put into effect and people like humping way too much. Since generations of doucebags raped the natural world for hundreds of years, we are now desperately trying to dig ourselves out of the gigantic environmental hole we've created for the generations to come. Do I recycle? No I'm one of those douchebags. Why don't I recycle? Simple. It's a change of lifestyle that I'm just too lazy to do. There are so many things you have to adhere to. The fact that I'm using this laptop to blog right now is hurting the environment. Here are some of the things that one is expected to do to reduce one's carbon footprint....

Instead of using your car: walk, ride a bicycle, ride an electric scooter or a moped, ride a motorcycle, take public transit, carpool, drive an electric car or stay home.

Use biodegradable soaps, shampoo, conditioner, laundry products, cleaning products, paper products including toilet paper. Even my tampon box is recycled...when will my tampons be?

Shower less. If it's yellow let it mellow. Make sure to plug up the rinse sink when doing dishes so you won't waste water there. Have a rain barrel if you like to garden.

Use natural products, like baking soda and vinegar, as often as possible.

Reusable shopping bags. Reusable containers for the Kid's lunch.

Compost. Which means I have to save the stuff in my freezer and then bring it to a friend's house to use their composter because I live in an apartment. Which is one of the buildings I'm sure that are very environmentally unfriendly by nature anyway.

Turn off my lights all the time.

I should be receiving all my bills electronically.

Cook less. And buy only local foods or grow my own.

I can't even use the dish soap I prefer because it alters the sex of the fish in our waterways.

And there's probably a hundred other things that I can't even think of that I could be doing to help the environment. Everything I do or don't do is ruining the environment. Since there are not enough trees because of clearcutting, the fact that I'm alive and breathing is damaging. If I were to die, my rotting corpse would be seeping into the ground water and contaminating it. I can't win. So for the longest time I didn't bother. But I should bother at least a little. I don't have to be an environmentalist but I could put out my cardboard, glass and plastics. I'll turn off my lights. I'll use less water. I won't drive as much. I'll say YES to making an effort. If all of us did only one thing it would make a difference after all.

Now that I've decided to be less of an environmental douche, this is what my kitchen/dining room looks like...

Damn tree huggers....

Awesome Possum!!

When I was pregnant with the Kid we subscribed to the movie channels on cable. I watched Sally Field's Places in the Heart like a hundred times. Don't ask me why, I was pregnant. Anyway, Sally Field's daughter in the movie was called Possum. I liked it. So that's the pet name that the Kid got from me. So I'm NOT talking about the adorable creature in the pink bow but my adorable Kid. And she is AWESOME! Not that I need any more reasons to be proud of my Kid but today was report card day. And as usual she came home with an excellent report. Yes I'm proud of my Kid because of the grades she gets but also because of the person that she is. The compassionate, thoughtful, kind, fair and fun person that she is. I'm proud of the way she advocates for the other kids that haven't found their voice to stand up for themselves. I'm proud of how helpful she is with staff and students alike. I'm proud of her clearly knowing the difference between right and wrong and standing up against the injustices of her world. What kid do you know donates their Christmas money to charity? Are there smarter kids out there? Sure. But how many kids do you know that have beauty, brains and a global conscience? I may not always like my Kid (she is still a kid after all...) but I love that Possum and she IS awesome.

Productive day

The one thing I had planned on doing today is the one thing I didn't get done. I woke up and got the Kid ready for school which includes breakfast and lunch preparation. Get myself ready for the day. Take apart the bathroom exhaust fan to get it fixed. Take the Kid to school. Drop off a note for my counselor. Drive down to my grandmother's church to drop off a cheque but it was closed. Get back home. Put the bathroom fan back up. Clean out 4 litter boxes. Wash, dry, fold and put away 3 loads of laundry. Go back out to drop off that cheque. Vacuum. Dust. Clean the bathroom. Fix the fish tank filter. Pick the Kid up from school. Get dinner. Move furniture. Paint. Clean up. Write some kind of blog. Have a Guinness. Go to bed. It was a pretty good day for me. All I wanted to do was go to the gym....there's always tomorrow.

Say YES to beautiful colour.
